Custom Software Development Services
Some days, computers seem to cause more problems than they solve. There is always the financial system that doesn't integrate with the operational system, so data is entered into more than one place. Then there is the software that someone long gone made a decision to buy, but it is hard to use and training people on it is time consuming, and people hate it. There are new systems that are really nice, but the historical data is in an older system and hasn't been migrated to the new application. And then there is always the systems that are so bad that no one uses them, but they hang around sucking down IT resources to maintain. Are you a middle manager at a company under pressure to solve an IT problem someone else created, but you don't want to start from scratch and spend big bucks? Relax, help is on the way....
The evolutionary nature of the computer industry since the 1980's and the first PC's has left behind some smelly remains. Allowing everyone to build databases at the PC or client/server was a necessary step, but now we have all kinds of systems that contain redundant data. Just imagine how many databases are out there with your name and address in them, and how many show something different? The real power from a software application comes when data is integrated, and multiple systems work together...that is how we accelerate your business to light speed!
NeoNexus offers out of the box services for some problems, but many customers need a custom solution. Whether its customizing a third party application, helping you figure out a legacy application for which the original programmers and documentation are long gone, or building software from scratch, we can help you with those nasty problems and get you back to doing more productive work.
Database Integration and Data Mining
Lots of databases out there....LOTS. How do we integrate them? First we use our "secret decoder rings" to crack the data model. It is amusing in a Stephen King sort of way how many applications are around that people know how to use, but have no idea how the data is stored. We figure that out. That step can be easy, or it can take awhile, but all databases eventually give up their secrets.. Once we understand the data model(s), then we can compare it to the systems that you want to integrate it with and do an analysis. Data may ...will have to be cleaned as part of an integration, and that requires working closely with the business users. Then we establish a set of rules to migrate the data, move it, verify it, and you are up and running. Of course, that can take some time, but we can help you put together a business case to make sure the effort is worth it before diving in to the cold water.
Data mining is similar, but it often doesn't involve integration...its just a matter of sorting through large datasets to find out what little gems of information can be extracted from the database. We crack the data model, slice and dice the data, and help you figure out some things about your business that you probably never even considered....based on data you have been collecting.
Content Management Systems (CMS)
People love to throw this term around, and lots of organizations have spent lots of money on CMS. The CMS was supposed to be the answer to the high prices of programmers...build a website and database system without knowing a single programming language or writing one line of code. Right...and the secret to great cooking is to buy frozen television dinners prepared by someone else, just heat them up, and you have a gourmet meal.
All websites need fresh content, which means the need to update them. In certain situations, CMS IS a good solution. A CMS can work for you if your needs meet the following criteria:
- You need to make updates to your website AT LEAST once per week
- The updates consist of more than just posting news or using a calendar
- You have a person in your organization that is technically proficient enough to learn to use the software AND will not be leaving soon
- You are willing to pay a professional artist to do the initial design inside the CMS and then let your people take over managing content
If you meet these criteria, then a CMS can be a good solution. NeoNexus provides either a proprietary CMS solution or an open source CMS solution that can be implemented at a reasonable cost. We will develop the initial design, train your people, and turn you loose to maintain your own content.
If you want to maintain news only, then NeoNexus will implement a blog for you. A blog is a CMS, but more limited in what the user can do than a full CMS system (and less expensive). It is far easier to learn to use a blog, it is easier for multiple people to maintain news, and allows secondary users limited access to post comments.
The training of employees in the use of CMS systems can be expensive, and is rarely a one time expense. Employee turnover and promotions means new people taking over, employee knowledge gets stale due to limited use of the system, and changes in software require re-training.
Using a professional designer is not a requirement...you are free to build your own designs. However, most websites want to keep people coming back to them, and poor design is a killer. We have all been to websites that we got so frustrated we went somewhere else. Having the CMS tools to build a design is no guarantee that the design will work. NeoNexus' designers are highly skilled at website design, AND we do it everyday.
The biggest complaint we receive from CMS customers is that they ultimately make changes once per month, or once per quarter, or even more infrequent, and they are tired of doing the maintenance themselves. NeoNexus static website designs include free text updating, and for most people, that is all you need.
Web Project Management
NeoNexus' HiveMind PM SaaS offering allows your team to collaborate and communicate on the same project via the internet. If a schedule changes at the last minute, one person can update the calendar and emails are sent to both computers and mobile phones telling those already in route about the change. Track your project status using bar graphs, record all documents submissions to and from your partners or regulatory agencies. HiveMind PM has been used to coordinate communication with Fortune 500 companies, the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Need some customized functionality you can't get from Lotus or Microsoft? Let's talk.
NeoNexus puts our money where are mouth is. We are using our own HiveMind PMsoftware to manage our website design projects. Since we have artists and programmers in various offices, many working odd hours, this tool allows everyone to stay up to speed on all the projects.

Fully customizable using PHP, we can vary the design to match your existing website or be as unique as you want it to be.
